The Light of Truth

Such a simple thing, to fall

over your head beyond all reason

To lose one’s self in fantasy

so bright you cannot see the sky

Watch the world slide out of focus

never knowing you’ve lost sight

of what you fell for in the first place

Blind to the reality

you’ve long since left behind

Hands clasped so tight it still slips through

and soon too much time passes

and all you held so closely

lies broken at your feet

What you had and what you wanted

failed to find alignment

and instead of putting in the work

(if even just to walk away)

you stick to visions unrelenting

and let it pass you by

That moment, harsh and heartbreaking

you wake up to the illusions

and find yourself laid wanting

under the light of truth

All Comes Back

It all comes back to you

It ALWAYS comes back to you

It all always comes back to that

That look, that laugh, that smile

That glorious, awkward, devastating moment

That whirlwind force unwittingly unleashed

Ready to sweep right through my psyche

And ruin whatever it finds there

It all comes back

Destined to repeat itself

Some misunderstood grand cosmic cycle

Construction and destruction

A phoenix of emotion rising from the ashes

Sunrise, sunset, and it all falls down

Only to be brought up anew

To face the charge of endless storms

Waiting for the one that it might weather

Never knowing that every fall

Every crack, every crevice

Makes it that much weaker for the next time

It all comes back to you

And the beautiful disaster

That trailed through in your wake

The aftermath and aftershocks

Still striking to this day

Blink and Wait

Vicarious visions of what’s meant to be

A distant view beyond the veil

Funneled through the lens of fate

What went wrong, what went well

It’s not ours to tell

The world turns on with or without us

Others seem to follow suit

But something in the motion stops me

Stuck in neutral once again

I look around at all the faces

People and places carrying on

Lives led through the hands of time

So why can’t I follow those footsteps?

Why can’t I take those halting movements?

I only seem to march in place

I see all that could be before me

Yet all I do is blink and wait
